David Porter

Tuba

 

David Porter has been with The Masterworks Festival since its inception.  He is currently principal tuba with The McLean Orchestra. David is a retired CMSgt section tubist from The United States Air Force Band, Washington, DC, having served 24 honorable years. His past orchestra positions have been substitute tuba with The Maryland Symphony and principal tuba with The New Mexico Symphony Orchestra.  He is active with The King Street Brass Quintet and Brass Lyte Quintet.

 

Dave is very busy as a private tuba instructor in northern Virginia, and has taught students for the past 30 years.  He also contributes a quarterly article to the International Tuba and Euphonium Society Journal, which specializes as a teacher’s aide called “Tips for Tuba”.

 

David has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from (TTU) Tennessee Technological University (1980) and a Masters of Music degree in Tuba Performance from the (UNM) University of New Mexico (1982).  His teacher’s have been Professor R. Winston Morris (TTU), Dr. Karl Hinterbichler (UNM), Mr. David Fedderly (principal tubist, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Dr. Milton Stevens (former principal trombone, National Symphony Orchestra), Mr. Gene Pokorny, (principal tubist, Chicago Symphony Orchestra) and Dr. Michael Nickens, (George Mason University).  Dave is currently enrolled in the DMA Tuba Performance program at George Mason University.
