Faculty Bio: Reid Messich

Mr. Messich received his Bachelor of Music at the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied extensively with Mr. Richard Woodhams. He also holds a Masters in Performance from Florida State University, where he is currently ABD towards his DMA and studied with Dr. Eric Ohlsson. His other principal teachers include Elaine Douvas, John Mack, and Joseph Robinson. From 2001-2004 Mr. Messich held the Aspen Academy Conducting Orchestra Fellowship where he served as principal oboist under Maestro David Zinman. Mr. Messich is currently a member and rotating principal oboist of the IRIS Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Michael Stern in Memphis, Tennessee. He was most recently appointed as the Assistant Professor of Oboe at The University of Georgia’s Hugh Hodgson School of Music and is an active member of the Georgia Woodwind Quintet. Each summer Mr. Messich serves on the staff as the Instructor of Oboe at the Masterworks Festival in Winona Lake, Indiana. In high demand, Mr. Messich freelances throughout the United States Southeast and has performed with the Jacksonville Symphony, Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, Miami City Ballet, and the Boca Raton Symphonia.
