January Featured Reader: Beth Wheeler

Congratulations to January's Featured Reader, Beth Wheeler!  Beth won last month's challenge by submitting this clever picture and caption.  (The February Challenge is now in full swing!)

1. What is your performing art? Are you active or interested in any other arts?

I play the flute. I love the instrument and enjoy playing it. I also have some flute students. I LOVE teaching!

2. Which MasterWorks programs and years have you attended? How did they affect your life?

I attended the Wind Intensive Study Program (WISP) in 2010 and 2011. I was truly blessed by my time in WISP. The devotionals were probably my favorite part of the program. We could just share our hearts with one another and encourage each other in the Lord. I enjoyed interacting with the students, and the faculty was GREAT!

3. How did you get started in the arts?

I've always loved music. I started with piano lessons, and then after a couple years began flute. Although I had trouble in the beginning and throughout the time I took lessons in high school and college, I loved it and never really wanted to do anything else.

4. Tell us about your experiences as a Christian artist: high school, college, etc.

Well, I was homeschooled through high school, so I basically just took private music lessons at that time. I took music classes at a local college and learned a lot. I was kind of an odd ball there because of being homeschooled, etc... so the other students kind of left me alone. The professors and I got along well, and I pray that I was a light to those I came in contact with.

5. What has the Lord been teaching you lately?

A LOT! He has been teaching me to rely on Him... to be fully abandoned to Him no matter what else I am facing in my life. All I need to be concerned with is what He wants me to be doing, and when I am completely dependent on Jesus, everything else will fall into place. This does not mean sitting around and doing nothing; it means that I need to do what the Lord has placed in front of me at present, and leave my future in His hands because He has a perfect plan for my life.

6. What would you like to do in the future?

My dream is to have a home flute studio. I LOVE teaching, and would love to impart what I have learned, along with the love of Jesus, to my students.

7. List your favorite book, movie, and food, if possible. :)

Book: I enjoy many different genres (mystery, biography, romance, etc.) but I think my favorite book right now is One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp.

Movie: I enjoy The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Chronicles of Narnia series, the Bourne Trilogy, and many others.

Food: Homemade banana bread! :)

Hi, Beth! I have enjoyed hearing you and the others in the Soli Deo Gloria trio, so it was interesting to read a bit about your background. I became a friend of Rebecca's since the 2010 MWF and have kept up a correspondence with her since then. I lke being able to pray for her special needs . (I understand you have a challenge in your life, too, although your blog did not mention that.) Rebecca invited me to once again attend the Blue Gate event coming up, but unfortunately that is the same night as a commnity concert in Bryan (OH)that we have tickets for and because it is a string quartet I particualrly don't want to miss that. I have been a violin student for three and a half years. I know you will be marvelous again. I wish there was not a conflict ! Barb
